Ann Moody

Midwife

BSc (Hons)

Ann predominantly practices and cares for women and families in the intrapartum period of pregnancy/ birth whilst also co-ordinating/ leading a busy (approximately 3,500 births per annum) obstetric unit together with an obstetric team. I take the lead and participate/ co-ordinate in obstetric emergencies including antenatal/ postpartum haemorrhage, shoulder dystocia, cord prolapse, pre-eclampsia & eclampsia and neonatal resuscitation. I work and co-ordinate a delivery suite which manages and cares for high-risk pregnancies and deliveries and immediate aftercare.

For three years Ann practiced as a Patient Safety and Quality Midwife at the University Hospital of North Durham taking a lead in risk management and clinical governance for the Family Health Care Group. This role incorporates communications with Trust Board, taking the lead in investigations and the Root Cause Analysis (RCA) process while following statute Duty of Candour regulations. By attending the Family Health Governance meetings, being an active participant in the Evidence Based Practice Group and coordinating audits and the quality of service Ann is able to chair and deliver maternity’s monthly Safeguarding, Audit, Governance and Education (SAGE) conference.

More recently, Ann has been seconded into a Corporate Patient Safety Specialist Team in a neighbouring Trust; Queen Elizabeth Hospital, Gateshead. This has given me corporate experience, extended my knowledge of the NHS framework/ Governance requirements and given me an overall broader experience. Taking the lead in robust investigations across the Trust, embedding a Just Culture and implementing Human Factors into investigation processes have been particular highlights to date.
